We’re looking at up-sizing from our current “shoebox” apartment. This will give us more space to grow more things…
Microgreens Day 7, 8, & 10 (Pictures)
Picture-journaling the microgreens’ growth as they mature…
First microgreens, Day 5
The microgreens started greening up right away, and even leaning toward the window on the same day! I hadn’t installed the grow light yet, but there’s some natural light. I’ll try to tackle it over the weekend. They are growing though! Getting the watering balance right is challenging.
First microgreens, Day 3
The microgreens are kinda growing! I put them under a black-out (covered with a little tray to block the light so that they reach more and grow taller faster) either yesterday or the day before. They’re pushing up the dirt lol. I try to keep them as moist as possible without oversaturating. I know they take a while to grow, so I just have to be patient.
Starting my first microgreens!
We got microgreens started! I’m starting with the Mild Mix, which came with the starter kit, which is a brassica/cruciferous blend of 4 – broccoli, cabbage, and 1-2 I hadn’t heard of before.

Really glad I got to harvest some dark-green alfalfa sprouts today – we’ve had to go the past 2 nights without our usual sprouts mini-salad, and we’ve really missed that! Awesome to know we have more again, nice fresh sprouts. I’ll probably get more going here in a day or 2 (lol).
We’re also thinking of doing another mushroom kit, only this time we’ll try and get more flushes out of it.
Second mushroom flush!
I spun the box around and made another cut, this time an “X” instead of just one slash. The second flush does indeed grow much faster!
A homegrown 3-sprout, 1-mushroom veggie burger!
We’re making a vegetarian burger tomorrow that’s mostly sprouted stuff – like 3 different kinds of sprouts – quinoa in the patty itself (along with another chunk of my first batch of mushrooms, plus egg and another ingredient or 2), sesame and chickpea in the hummus spread, and of course the Italian blend that matured 2-3 days early to layer on top lol.

Mushroom win
My first attempt at growing mushrooms was a win!
