Second mushroom flush!

I spun the box around and made another cut, this time an “X” instead of just one slash.  The second flush does indeed grow much faster!

My first attempt at growing mushrooms was a win!

Don’t wait until Day 14 to harvest oyster mushrooms…

I think I waited too long to harvest these.  They’re looking a bit old and past their prime.  But I’ve been assured that they will indeed be edible!

Mushroom turnaround, Day 13

I think it was the light exposure that deformed them; they started growing toward the light, so I thought they liked it, but then they started getting deformed.  This is a backdated post, so I’m trying to go on more than a year’s memory lol.  I’m pretty sure I turned the kit box away from the light, or something like that.  Guess we’ll find out when I do this again!  Because I’m wanting to.

They do change fast!  And they’re sensitive to conditions, a bit picky.  Not exactly reassuring, as oyster mushrooms are supposed to be the easiest ones to grow.  I’m thinking this may be a case of not enough moisture?  Not sure.

Once mushrooms finally take off, they grow extremely fast!  There’s even a big difference between morning and that evening.

I followed the instructions, which weren’t exactly detailed, but they were sufficient.  And prayed…

My Wise Gardening Friend mentioned that I can grow mushrooms in low light (!).  We have a north-facing window apartment with windows only on the one side, so this is very helpful.
